A Case of Juvenile Disciform Macular Degeneration
نویسنده
چکیده
The juvenile disciform macular degeneration is a non-inflammatory condition occurring in young people during the second and third decades tending to resolve in the course of a few months. de Schweinitz (1926), Junius (1930), and Davis and Sheppard (1935) have described cases ?f macular lesion similar to the senile disciform degeneration occurring in young subjects. The ophthalmoscopic examination shows an exudateuke mass, having degenerative rather than inflammatory characteristics and is differentiated from the senile degenerative form by the fact that the lesion tends to resolve with good prognosis for the vision. The only pathological examination has been sported by Verhoeff and Grossmann (1937) : A case occurred in a man of 63, non-arteriosclerotic, who retained good sight in spite of the lesion : the pathological examination showed a serous exudate instead of the subretinal haemorrhage characteristic of the senile lesion. They therefore advanced the hypothesis that the senile and juvenile forms of disciform degeneration of the macula are extremes in a series

Senile macular changes in the black African.
One thousand black African and 380 white Caucasian patients over the age of 50 were examined for evidence of age-related macular changes, namely, drusen, pigment epithelial atrophy, and disciform macular degeneration. Drusen and pigment epithelial changes were found to occur twice as commonly in Caucasians as in Africans; there was a much greater difference in the prevalence of disciform macula...

Vitreomacular adhesion in active and end-stage age-related macular degeneration.
PURPOSE To evaluate vitreomacular relations in different stages of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) without the influence of genetics and environmental factors. DESIGN Retrospective, observational case series. METHODS This was a multicenter study consisting of 29 previously untreated subjects with active exudative (wet) AMD in one eye and active nonexudative (dry) AMD in the fellow ey...
متن کاملManagement of significant reactivation of old disciform scars in wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration
BACKGROUND Fibrotic disciform scars represent the end-stage of wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and ophthalmologists tend not to treat them. However, reactivation can occur resulting in further worsening of patients. The aim of this study is to describe the clinical outcomes of 10 patients with disciform scars from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that have subsequently reactiva...
متن کاملSenile disciform macular degeneration: features indicating suitability for photocoagulation.
During a 1-year period 398 new patients were seen with disciform macular degeneration (530 eyes). The lesions were studied retrospectively, and those in which the neovascular tissue did not underlie the fovea, and therefore were treatable, were identified. The following conclusions were drawn: (1) Treatment is possible in most patients with good acuity and few with poor acuity. (2) Treatment is...
